This week the fam and I are in Marco Island vacationing. However, I did use the opportunity of being in Florida to do some work by visiting with some folks on the Atlantic Coast. I had about a 3.5 hr drive each way on Friday = a lot of time in the car.
I spent much of that time on the Florida Turnpike system. My rental car from Avis had a nice program where I could drive through the "Sunpass" lane and I didn't have to stop to "throw" my change in the basket and wait for the gate to rise. The sunpass lane has cameras which take a snapshot of your license and then bill your account, and Avis just passes the bill along to you. So, I don't know exactly how much I spent on the drive, but I'm guessing about $20.
I was listening to my ipod much of the time, but on one of the local morning shows people were calling in a complaining about the toll roads and I couldn't agree more. I hate the idea of driving to work every day and paying tolls just to get to work! However, they don't have a state income tax, so I'm sure it all works out in the end.
