Which is more impressive - the Palace scorekeeper speed or the speed of the ESPN app on my phone telling me when the Tigers game has started?
First let me say either the scorekeeper at the Palace is lightning quick or they have some sort of computer system hooked up to the net...no. Several other people I know have commented on the speed of this guy, plus a sports talk radio hour on the subject. I am not the only one who has noticed this. When a basket is scored at the palace, you glance from the rim/net to the scoreboard and you've already missed it. You keep staring at it wondering when they are going to change the score, when you realize it was already changed before you had a chance to look up. The reader might not think this is a big deal, but let me say the speed is incredible. Next you find yourself looking up at the scoreboard when you see a player shoot and you notice the scoreboard changes before you can hear the crowd cheer. Its insane. I mean, if you picture this guy, he is staring at the hoop with his finger on the button, and it makes me mad. I don't know why, but it makes me mad.
Second I am commenting on the speed of my ESPN Iphone app. I am subscribed to alerts for Detroit Tigers scores and updated throughtout the game, including telling me when the game has started. I have always been impressed with the speed of the updates. However, tonight, I had the game on TV and was watching the first pitch and within one moment my phone lit up telling me the game has started. Maybe it was less than one moment? I don't know, I am one bottle of Three Buck Chuck deep. But to analyze this, there is someone at ESPN sending feeds to the app and to the mothership website. And he is watching close. As soon as the first pitch, this goon is uploading the feed through their system all the way to my phone with only about a 2 second delay.
I take it back, he is not a goon. He is The Flash.
But to judge who is more impressive, I go with the Palace because it seems a little more amazing and pisses me off more trying to figure it out.
