As far as I can remember, we haven't had a decent amount of rain in months. Most of the lawns in my neighborhood are looking terribly brown. I am doing my best, but I have some brown spots as well due to an inept RAIN BIRD installer. Most of my lawn is very lush, and I have to say, I probably have the lushest lawn in the sub (probably because I have the system running twice a day and I doubled the time in each zone).
To combat the brown spots, I tried resetting the sprinkler heads on my Rain Bird system, but that didn't work. There just isn't enough coverage to get the whole lawn. So I bought a couple of hoses measuring 130 feet and a POS sprinkler which I've been moving around nightly for full coverage. The reason I call it a POS is because on the box it says it has coverage of 3400 sq ft but that is not my result. I figure it covers a few hundred SF at best. It must be due to lack of water pressure?
This is simply a short term solution. If this occurs next year as well, I will be adding a zone or two and several sprinkler heads. The total cost of the hose/sprinkler was $65 and each Rain Bird head with installation is $80, so it is likely a $500 project. The patch system will work for now.
